Compassion International is one of the world’s leading Christian child development organizations. In response to the Great Commission, the ministry exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.

The ministry was founded in Korea in 1952 by Rev. Everett Swanson, who felt called by God to help Korean children who had been abandoned and orphaned in the midst of a devastating civil war. Compassion International has grown extensively since then. Today, the ministry serves more than 1 million children in 25 countries, using a holistic child development model that entails four key distinctives:
- Christ centered – Each child has an opportunity to hear the gospel in an age-appropriate and culturally relevant way.
- Child focused – Engaging each child as complete person; we treat children like the way we’d want our own children to be treated.
- Church based – We partner with churches, parents and communities – to teach, train and mentor children.
- Committed to integrity – We are dedicated to delivering excellent programs with complete integrity.
