In May 2007, the first Global Consultation on Academic Programs in Holistic Child Development took place as over fifty leaders of seminaries and other academic institutions from Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, Europe, and Oceania gathered in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The event, jointly sponsored by Compassion International and Fuller Theological Seminary, resulted in the birth of a multi-cultural partnership of various institutions committed to promoting, developing and establishing holistic child development programs around the world. The Global Alliance for Advancing Holistic Child Development (HCD Global Alliance), as it came to be known, is a voluntary league of seminaries, Bible colleges and Christian academic establishments that work with researchers, trainers, practitioners and Christian leaders to create a world movement of academic programs in holistic child development.
Core Values:
The underlining and perhaps most compelling factor that drives the HCD Global Alliance is the biblical mandate to care for children. Children are mentioned more than 1,600 times in Scripture, and it is clear that God cares for and loves children. As a result, we also ought to love and care for children. The HCD Global Alliance holds a unified conviction that all children deserve to grow up in a healthy and safe environment so that they may truly enjoy and live out the lives God had intended for them to have in the first place.
Mission:
The HCD Global Alliance works to encourage and empower seminaries, Bible schools and other Christian academic institutions to implement contextually sensitive, academically rigorous and biblically sound holistic child development programs that will motivate and inspire the Christian community to increase and improve their ministry on behalf of children around the world.
